Remember the days of using a block code for individual calls? Not anymore!

A block code can be used to make calls from your number appear to others as an “unknown user” or “blocked caller”. In the UK, dialling *141 (In the US, dialling *69) as a prefix to a number will conceal your phone number from the recipient. This is a free service but can only be used for outgoing calls to businesses and individuals. Many countries including the UK & USA are putting in place ‘Anti Spam’ measures and these include blocking calls without a properly formatted phone number – don’t be surprised if your calls get blocked if you hide your number!

Customise the caller ID setting. A real pain! 

Most smartphones, whether iPhone or Android, will have caller ID settings that you can adapt to meet individual needs. It’s easy to turn caller ID off and on as required, but not all carriers support this. If it’s important to protect your privacy on a particular call, make sure this feature is available before dialling. You will need to consider the inbound call capability of the number you use & remember to turn it off, especially if you use other calling apps that need to recognise your actual mobile number.
