Be Grateful not an Ass when an Employee leaves.
One of your staff has resigned and is leaving, but for a small company or start up, this can mean a real headache and sometimes look like a disaster.
You’ll probably need to spend time and money trying to find a replacement. While that is going on, you will likely have to cover that person’s role, time you really can’t afford and once you find a replacement you’ll need to spend time training them and getting them up to speed.
Bottom line, when someone leaves you’ll feel a lot of additional pressure, and you’ll likely want to call them a jackass for leaving.
Losing your rag, being derogatory, and basically leaving a bad taste in everyone’s mouths, won’t achieve anything positive, in fact the opposite, with the ex-employee now wondering why they spent so much time and effort helping you succeed.
Don’t be an Ass! In fact, be totally the opposite. Be grateful for; the time the employee spent with you, for their input, for their dedication and loyalty and remember an employee is a human being not an item, with aspirations and dreams of their own, and your business may not be the right fit for them at this time.
Being respectful, grateful, and even delighted for the ex-employee’s new opportunity can be incredibly rewarding. You never know when you might meet again and the opportunities that meeting may bring. It may be a new sales lead, a supplier opportunity or even the ex-employee looking to return to the fold! Treating an ex-employee correctly will create a better opportunity where they speak highly of your company and your products or services as opposed to trashing your good name!
It’s common sense!
This week, one of our team left us to pursue his real dream and purpose in life as a Top Chef. Kevin Ocampo, has been a company stalwart for nearly 2 years, heading up our Customer Success team, and working steadfastly to deliver incredible customer service, and he will be sorely missed.
Yes, his departure has left a hole, but we could not be more delighted for Kevin as he opens a new Restaurant, “Babilonia” in the heart of Denia, Spain. Prior to joining us, Kevin worked in some of the top restaurants in Manchester, England, ensuring dishes for the likes of Ronaldo, Ferguson, Pogba and other VIP’s were the best they could be, and we are certain his close attention to detail and always wanting to please, will stand him in good stead for his new venture.
For Kevin’s outstanding contribution to conXhub we were delighted to present him with a set of the highest quality Kitchen Knives, which we hope he will cherish and give him fond memories of his time with us when he is preparing his next exotic meal.
We wish Kevin well.
