Startup or Big Business: What you need to know?
The world is changing fast. One of the changes is how the United Kingdom is still Europe’s leading startup nation and attracted over $11 Billion in venture capital funding in 2019. In the Start Up culture there are often people stuck in a wheel, or a cycle, addicted to the start up process and pressure. There are individuals coming from established companies that still go back to startups, and repeat the process in a cycle. By definition according to Investopedia, a Startup is a young company founded by one or more entrepreneurs to develop a unique product or service and bring it to market. People going from a big company to a startup, as a founder or an employee, severely underestimate the differences in how the work gets done. In fact, there are many things you need to unlearn when you are used to the environment of a company then you change and start working for a startup. Here are some things you need to remove from your system when you enter the world of startup: Always be driven by yourself In an established company, roles and duties are defined and mostly, they have a bible for employees to follow. If you are working for a startup, you better prepare yourself for always finding your position in the company as responsibilities are constantly changing. Decision making Unlike in a company where directives are given by a boss or manager. In a startup, you have to make a lot of decisions and get a lot of work done by yourself. Moreover, startups don’t get a lot of support in terms of tools, processes, and people because established companies have a budget for such things. Everything is fast paced Startups move fast and even the worst ones work faster than companies. If you are used to a comfortable time schedule, then working in a startup is definitely not for you.
